For months now, one of the biggest concerns among Ebonyi State University (EBSU) students has been the delay in the refund of NELFUND loan payments.
Since last year, many students whose NELFUND loans were successfully disbursed to the university have continued to complain that they have not received their refunds. According to affected students, their names appeared on the disbursement list, and many also submitted the required refund letters as instructed by the school.
Because of this delay, several students have found it difficult to complete the payment of their school fees. Some have even been unable to complete their course registration despite their loans already being disbursed to the university.
Over the past year, the university released a few updates regarding the situation. In one of the updates, the management explained that the delay was partly due to changes in the school’s administration.
Later, another notice asked students who had mistakenly received double payments to refund the excess amount. At another point, students who reportedly received only part of their expected refund were directed to write through their faculty presidents requesting the balance. Many students complied with these instructions.
However, despite these updates and the steps taken by affected students, many say they are still waiting for their refunds. While some students have reportedly received payments, others claim they were not paid the full amount they were expecting.
As of now, the exact reason many refunds remain unpaid—or why the funds have not been applied directly to affected students’ school fees—has not been publicly clarified by the university.
Many students have expressed frustration over the long wait. According to several reports from affected students, after months of complaints, only a small number of students are paid before the process appears to stall again, leaving many others waiting with the hope that payments are still being processed.
The delay has also had academic consequences for some students. Several affected students say they have been unable to fully participate in academic activities because their school fees remained outstanding, with some reporting they were denied access to examinations or other school processes.
For now, the university management has not released any new update regarding the remaining refunds.
Studentsdash will continue to monitor the situation and provide verified updates as soon as any official information is released.

Well I’m really disappointed in nelfund
This very current situation of many EBSU regarding the NELFUND loan is very critical as it has left students in a state of anguish, distress and dejection.
As a 100L student, I applied for the NELFUND loan hoping that if later disbursed, I could get an apartment around the school for ease of stress and comfortability including full participation in the school activities.
You can imagine where I spends minimum of #2500 on transport everyday coming to school, at time I do miss school for a week if I couldn’t find transport fare for that period.
Obviously, am loosing hope of the NELFUND currently because, if the older students (200L and above) couldn’t receive their’s, how possible is it for we the 100L students to receive ours?
We only pray for God to bless our parents/sponsors Richly so that they can afford our fees. Hoping on NELFUND is even worst than hoping on NEPA.
Thank you for the information @studentsdash 🙏
