Sen. Nwankwo Ipere Kelvin (Onyendozi De Ultimate): A Young Leader Driven by Resilience, Advocacy and Service

Sen. Nwankwo Ipere Kelvin, popularly known as Onyendozi (De Ultimate), is a Nigerian student leader, researcher, political crusader, entrepreneur, speaker, baker, caterer, and advocate for student welfare and development. A native of Abaomege Autonomous Community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Kelvin is currently a 400-level Medical Biochemistry student at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, and resides in Abakaliki.

His journey is one shaped by leadership, resilience, dedication, commitment, advocacy, and an enduring desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Early Life and Educational Journey

Kelvin’s leadership journey did not begin at the university. According to him, it has been developing since his primary school years.

His early education was at Abaomege Central School, where he was entrusted with leadership responsibilities from a young age. He served as a class monitor from Primary 1 through Primary 6, before becoming General Headboy and taking part in chaplaincy activities.

He continued this pattern of leadership during his secondary education at Standard Foundation Schools, Abaomege. There, he served as a Class Captain, later became a School Regulator, and eventually rose to the position of Senior Prefect.

His educational journey also included his time at World of Believers Seminary School, which added another dimension to his personal and educational development.

Looking at his journey, there is a clear progression:

Class Monitor → General Headboy/Chaplaincy → Class Captain → School Regulator → Senior Prefect → Course Representative → SUG ASG → SUG President.

For Kelvin, this progression demonstrates that his interest in leadership did not suddenly begin when he entered the university. Leadership has been a recurring part of his life from childhood.

He describes the lessons from his early life simply: “To be resilient, dedicated, and committed.”

University Education and Leadership

At Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Kelvin’s leadership journey expanded beyond the classroom into broader student representation and university governance.

His first leadership position in the institution was as a Course Representative. As he progressed through the university, he took on additional responsibilities and became increasingly involved in student leadership.

At 200 level, he served as Secretary General of the Course Representative Forum, AE-FUNAI.

At 300 level, he served as SUG ASG and also became President of the National Association of Onicha Local Government Area Undergraduates.

His leadership journey eventually culminated in his emergence as the AE-FUNAI SUG President, a position through which he represents and leads a student body of approximately 20,000 students, according to the information he provided.

His experience in student governance has exposed him to administrative responsibilities, working under pressure, engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, and addressing issues affecting students.

Beyond his university, Kelvin has also participated in broader student leadership activities, including serving as a Senator in NANS Zone F.

He has also served in various student and community organizations, including as Secretary General of the National Association of Abaomege Undergraduates and Coordinator of Okwerike Village Students, alongside other associations.

Leadership Through Advocacy and Service

Kelvin’s approach to leadership is strongly connected to advocacy and service.

During his time in student leadership, he has been involved in issues surrounding student welfare, academic challenges, infrastructure, accommodation, transportation, NELFund-related matters, student engagement, and university administration.

Among the projects and achievements he identifies from his administration are the renovation of restrooms, construction of seat-out facilities, and electrification of the AEFUMTHA hostel.

He also highlighted initiatives such as Students Compass, Pad a Girl Child, and Beyond the Classroom, which were created as part of his administration’s efforts to address issues affecting students beyond their regular academic activities.

According to Kelvin, these initiatives were inspired by his promise to students and his determination to deliver on that promise.

He believes such programmes can help reduce students’ tendency to loiter around and instead encourage productive engagement and development.

He also states that many students, particularly students within the Faculty of Biological Sciences, have benefited from some of these initiatives.

Scholarships, Opportunities and Student Support

Another aspect of Kelvin’s student leadership has been his involvement in creating and connecting students with opportunities.

He mentions opportunities and scholarship initiatives involving organizations such as OPay and ASUU, describing the opportunities provided to students as numerous.

He has also organized and participated in several summits, webinars, conferences, and training programmes, using such platforms to engage students and young people on issues around leadership, development, and entrepreneurship.

For Kelvin, leadership is not simply about holding an office. It is also about creating opportunities and helping other people move forward.

A Researcher, Political Crusader and Mentor

Kelvin is popularly known for his work as a researcher and political crusader.

His major areas of passion include leadership and business mentorship. He has developed an interest in speaking with young leaders and helping young people understand leadership, personal development, and entrepreneurship.

His free time, he says, is often spent speaking to young leaders.

He has also participated in speaking engagements at conferences, summits, webinars, and other events, where he speaks primarily about leadership and business mentorship.

Through volunteerism and community service, he continues to engage with and support young people.

Entrepreneurship and the Food Business

Beyond student leadership and advocacy, Kelvin is also an entrepreneur.

He is the founder of De Ultimate Confectionery and Kitchen, a business focused on the production of cakes, biscuits, and food.

His interest in the food business is driven by what he describes as his “hobby and my love for food.”

His professional experience in the food industry also includes working with 5Star Food and Restaurants, where he worked as a cook.

Today, he identifies himself as a baker and caterer, while also describing himself as a speaker and entrepreneur.

The next phase, in his view, should be about developing academic credentials, professional competence, financial independence, discipline, mentorship, and a strong reputation outside politics.

His ambition extends beyond becoming popular or occupying political offices. He wants to become more knowledgeable, disciplined, competent, and valuable.

For Kelvin, the ultimate goal is for his leadership to speak before his title does.

Kelvin has received recognition for his involvement in leadership and student affairs. Among the recognitions he mentions is an award as Political Figure of the Year 2026.

He also identifies being among the best graduating students of the year as one of his notable academic achievements.
