1. Why I chose to study Architecture

I chose to study Architecture because I’ve always been interested in how buildings come to life. Growing up, I was the type of person that would look at a building and wonder, “How was this put together?” Architecture is more than just drawing or designing; it’s about creating spaces that improve lives. I’ve always loved the idea of being able to design buildings that not only look good but also serve a real purpose in society. I like the thought of creating something that lasts for generations. It’s a combination of art and science, which I find intriguing. Plus, architecture in Nigeria, with its rich cultural diversity, provides an amazing opportunity to blend tradition with modern design. It’s a field where you can really express yourself while making an impact, and that’s why I decided to go for it.

2. The building I love so much and why

The building I love so much is the National Arts Theatre in Lagos. I know it’s not the tallest or most modern structure, but there’s something about it that just speaks to me. It was built in the 1970s and is an icon of Nigerian culture and history. The way it was designed to represent a traditional Nigerian drum, known as the “Dundun,” is something that really stands out. It combines a lot of cultural significance and modern architectural principles. As a Nigerian, I feel proud when I see the National Arts Theatre because it’s not just a building, it’s a symbol of our creativity, strength, and heritage. It reminds me of the importance of preserving our culture through design, which is something I aspire to do as an architect. The National Arts Theatre is a reminder of how architecture can reflect the soul of a people.
