EBSU Withdrawal List Controversy: Publishing Error Discovered After Student Complaints

Tension recently filled the air following the publication of a withdrawal list in one of the departments at Ebonyi State University (EBSU). The release immediately sparked concern, confusion, and anxiety among affected students, many of whom believed they met the required academic standards.

However, a new development has emerged.

According to an official statement signed by Comr. Uche Daniel Ikechukwu, President, and Comr. Omebe Osbert C. E., Public Relations Officer, the faculty executives intervened after receiving numerous complaints from students whose names appeared on the list.

In the statement, it was explained that several affected students reached out to express dissatisfaction and confusion, insisting that their academic records met the approved minimum requirements. Following these complaints, the faculty executives took immediate steps by engaging in discussions with the Dean to clarify the situation.

After their interaction with the Dean, it was revealed that there was an error in the publishing of the withdrawal list.

According to the clarification provided:

  • Students who are now in 200 Level were expected to have met a minimum CGPA of 2.0 for their First Year.
  • Students who are now in 300 Level were expected to have met a minimum CGPA of 2.5 for their Second Year.

The error in publication reportedly led to the inclusion of some students who had actually met the approved minimum CGPA requirement.

As part of the resolution, all students who met the required minimum CGPA but were mistakenly shortlisted on the withdrawal list have been directed to print out their academic results and submit them to the Head of Department (HOD) for verification. The deadline for submission is on or before Friday.

The statement further reassured students that the faculty executives remain committed to protecting the academic rights and interests of students and ensuring that due process is followed in matters affecting their academic progression.

This development serves as a reminder of the importance of verification and proper communication in academic matters, especially when decisions directly impact students’ academic futures.

Students are strongly advised to act promptly if they are affected and to follow the official directive for verification.
