EBSU SUG Senate Issues Strong Warning on Illegal Appointments All Unauthorized Positions Declared Invalid
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) Legislative Arm, 27th Assembly of Ebonyi State University, has released an important public notice addressing the rising issue of illegal and unauthorized appointments circulating across different faculties and student bodies.
According to the Senate, this trend has caused confusion among students, created tension, and is already beginning to damage the reputation of both the Union and the University.
Only the SUG President Can Make Appointments
The Senate stressed that the SUG Constitution gives only the Executive President the power to:
- Appoint executive members
- Form committees
- Create directorates
- Establish parastatals
Therefore, any appointment made by Directors, other executive officers, student groups, or even Senators is unconstitutional and invalid.
What the Senate Decided
After deliberation during plenary, the Senate passed the following resolutions:
1. All illegal appointments are now null and void
Any position given by someone other than the SUG President has been canceled with immediate effect.
2. Students holding such positions must stop immediately
Anyone parading themselves under an illegal office is advised to withdraw.
If they fail to comply, the person may be arrested by the DSS for impersonation.
A Call for Order and Respect for the Constitution
The Senate emphasized that this action is not punishment, but a necessary correction to restore order and protect the integrity of the Union.
“This is not confrontation – this is restoration of order.
This is not oppression – this is governance guided by the Constitution.”
The 27th Assembly says it will not allow the image of EBSU or the SUG to be dragged into disorder because of personal interests or unauthorized actions.
Commitment to Good Leadership
The Senate reaffirmed its dedication to:
- Upholding the SUG Constitution
- Protecting the integrity of the Union
- Promoting accountability
- Ensuring that due process is followed at all times
All students, faculty leaders, executives, appointees, and senators are advised to comply for the sake of peace, unity, and progress in EBSU.
