Introduction

Before the arrival of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics (DVC) chaired the meeting. He opened the floor for complaints, reports, and suggestions aimed at improving campus life. Student leaders actively participated, seeking clarity on several issues, which were addressed as follows:

Key Issues Discussed:

  1. Fixing of Lectures on Weekends
    • The DVC clarified that students cannot be penalized for missing weekend lectures or classes outside the official timetable.
    • Such lectures do not count towards the 75% attendance required to sit for exams.
  2. Congested Lecture Halls
    • Congestion, especially among 100 and 200-level classes, was addressed.
    • Timetable coordinators are to adjust schedules so classes are split effectively (e.g., Anatomy and Physiology lectures at different times).
  3. Public Address System
    • The DVC advised that students mobilize per department to fund and procure quality public address systems.
    • This initiative depends on students paying their departmental dues.
  4. Campus Security
    • Students were urged to report suspicious activities immediately: “If you see something, say something.”
    • Cases of theft, rape, or criminal activity can be reported to authorities directly or through student leaders.
  5. NELFUND Updates
    • Refunds are ongoing.
    • Students must ensure their personal details are correct before and after applying.
    • Participation in NELFUND is optional.
  6. Installment School Fees
    • Payment in installments is only available for continuing students, not first-year students.
  7. Other Issues
    • Additional concerns specific to various classes, departments, and faculties were raised and are expected to be handled by the respective student representatives.

Arrival of the Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael Ugota Awoke, arrived to an enthusiastic welcome from the students. He commended the dedication of the SUG President, Comr. Nwauhuo Abraham Chikaebere, despite his temporary absence from the meeting.

Highlights from the VC’s Address:

  1. Focus on Academic Goals
    • Students were reminded to stay committed to their studies and understand the purpose of being in school.
  2. War Against Cultism
    • Cultism was strongly condemned.
    • Any student caught will face the full force of the law.
  3. War Against Malpractice
    • PRESCO Campus has recorded the highest malpractice cases in examinations within the College of Health Sciences.
    • From now on, anyone caught engaging in malpractice will be expelled.
  4. Say No to Sorting
    • Students were advised not to bribe lecturers or offer sexual favors in exchange for grades.
  5. Freshmen/Year One Orientation
    • Only official school-authorized orientation programs are recognized.
    • Any unauthorized orientation is considered a scam.
  6. Acknowledgment of Governor’s Support
    • The VC praised the efforts of Gov. Barr. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru (ONWA) for his student-friendly initiatives.
    • Students were encouraged to support him in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Conclusion

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from one of the student leaders, pledging solidarity between students and the school authorities. As a gesture of appreciation, the VC gave #1,000,000 to the students present for their warm welcome and participation.

This meeting reinforced the commitment of both EBSU authorities and students to a safe, fair, and productive campus environment.
