What is Alternative Placement and How to Apply

Many students at Ebonyi State University (EBSU) often hear the term Alternative Placement, but not everyone truly understands what it means or how it works.
In this post, Studentsdash explains what alternative placement means in EBSU, when it applies, and how students can successfully process it without mistakes.
What is Alternative Placement?
In general, alternative placement can mean differently things as it can be used for different situation or in different organization.
However, in this case, Alternative Placement in EBSU is the process where a student can officially request to be transferred back to the course they initially chose before being transferred to another department.
For example, if you applied for Medicine and Surgery, but during admission, you were offered Applied Biology, you can apply for Alternative Placement to request a transfer back to Medicine.
How to Apply for Alternative Placement in EBSU
If you were transferred to another department and want to go back to your original course, follow these simple steps carefully:
- Accept the Transfer on JAMB CAPS
- Log in to your JAMB profile.
- Go to CAPS (Central Admission Processing System).
- Accept the new course you were transferred to.

- Print Your JAMB Documents
- JAMB Admission Letter showing the course you were given.
- JAMB Result Slip used during your admission.

- Write a Letter of Alternative Placement
- Address the letter properly to the EBSU Admission Office.
- In the letter, state clearly that you were given admission into another course but wish to be transferred back to your original course (for example, from Applied Biology back to Medicine and Surgery).
- The letter should be polite and well-written.

- Attach Supporting Documents
- Attach the following:
- JAMB Admission Letter
- JAMB Result Slip
- Letter of Alternative Placement

- Attach the following:
- Submit Your Documents to EBSU
- Submit the documents to the EBSU Admission Office or your Faculty Office, depending on the instruction given by the school.

What Happens After Submission
After submitting your documents, EBSU management will review your request. If your transfer is approved, you will be officially moved to your desired department.
It is important to note that your JAMB record may still show the new course (like Applied Biology), but inside EBSU, you will now be registered and pay school fees for your main course (like Medicine and Surgery).
This process helps students who were transferred to another course but still meet the requirements for their first choice to return to it through proper documentation.
